Entstanden sind die G\u00e4rten vor etwa 70 Jahren in Zusammenarbeit des damaligen Besitzers Annan Pryce mit dem Architekten und Landschaftsg\u00e4rtner Harald Peto. Die Insel ging 1953 in den Besitz des Staates \u00fcber und wird seitdem von ihm verwaltet. Auf amtlichen Karten hei\u00dft die Insel Garinish Island, so wie sie international bekannt ist. Der andere Name \u2013 Ilnacullin (\u201eInsel der Stechpalmen\u201c) \u2013 ist wohl der \u00e4ltere Name der Insel.<\/p>\n<p>Man erreicht die Insel mit einem der privaten F\u00e4hrschiffe von Glengariff aus. Eine Besichtigung ist in den Sommermonaten oder sonst nach Vereinbarung m\u00f6glich. F\u00fcr die \u00dcberfahrt und f\u00fcr den Eintritt muss man getrennt Geb\u00fchren bezahlen.
